HAMACHIX
May 5th, 2008 under Tech Tips. [ Comments: none ]

Many people have heard of Hamachi, not the fish but the personal VPN software. For a while I was using it all the time and loved it. When Leopard came out Hamachi was broken. Now Hamachi works with Leopard and I again find myself using it all the time. It is very easy to setup. This is a great tool to help your RDP client and easy to tell if the other computer is even on. Your computer is assigned a global ip address in the 5.x.x.x range. This is not a real ip address like you 192.168.1.1 but it is an area of ip addresses that are left out of the net. Logmein has capitalized on this and integrated it into then VPN software. It is a secure connection and with the Hamachi client it is easy to connect to remote computers. This even makes local networking easier. Ok enough of a product spot.
